Over the last several weeks I have heard several radio ads urging Time Warner Cable and the NFL channel to get together so that we can watch certain pro football games. This morning an editorial filled a significant portion of the editorial page in the Austin American Statesman. On this day before Thanksgiving this all strikes me as a bit odd.
There are a lot of problems loose in the world: climate change, hunger, war, and poverty just to name a few. With those in mind it just seems wrong to be spending money and energy on whether or not I get to watch a game on television. Okay, I could understand the editorial, but the money spent on the ads bothers me, when I think of how it might have been redirected.
I realise that I too need to be aware of the financial choices that I make, and that they are not always the wisest or the most congruent with the faith I profess, but there is something about this public choice of priorities that concerns me.
Familiar words come back to haunt us. God forgive us for at times it seems we know not what we do.
