Okay, he wasn’t actually in the building. He was working between the buildings.
For as long as I can remember the steps between the sanctuary and education buildings have been in a state of less than good repair. Age and weather extremes had taken their toll, and cracks were evident. In fact there were several places where significant chunks were missing. All that changed when a man named Elvis showed up. Elvis Davis had done some work for us before, and he indicated that he could fix our decrepit stairway. And fix it he did. It looks almost brand new. He took liquid nails, spackling, other secret ingredients, and a lot of sand paper and changed the look completely. Watching Elvis was like watching a sculptor at work. It was a joy to watch someone who knows what he is doing and enjoys doing it.
There surely is a lesson here about using what you know and who you are and what you have at hand to make a lasting difference. There is something to be said for seeing something that needs to be done and committing yourself to doing it. Surely given all that we have been given by God, there is something with which we might work. Surely with all that we are given by God, there are things that we might do which will make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
It is something to consider now that we have now a lasting tribute to ingenuity, patience, and dedication. We now have an attractive stairwell. And it was all because Elvis was in the building, or rather between the buildings.
